Developer Update Beta (Week5) Connor W

Finished.png

The first week of beta for me was mostly all taken up by creating the second boss. It is a very large undertaking and I'm still not quite sure how I'm going to go about creating the whole thing. Other than that I took some time to flesh out some aspects of the lore/narrative. This involved coming up with some early naming systems for the equipment in our game, as well as some small descriptions of each thing. I also, with the help of the team, created a company name and logo for another part of the game. The lore is fleshed out below, as well as some images of the Squid boss progress.

Lore Details
Main Character worked for APCI (Automated-Preventive-Combat-Industries). A private company that develops weapons, equipment and vehicles for the (US) military.
Our games nomenclature
Vehicles/Weapons/Equipment:
Production number > Commonly used name, or Company name > Production Number
Boss Names
AABT-M2A1E ‘Howler’ (Automated Artillery Battle Tank - Model 3, Alteration 1, Experimental). Calling it experimental because It never went into production until after the AI ‘Uprising’ got out of control. (They were constructing themselves)
FRC-M7A2 ‘Squid’ (Field Reconnaissance Craft - Model 7, Alteration 2). Alteration 2 refers to the drones improved equipment set to help assist squads in the field (crowd control, trapper abilities). The ‘Squid’ Also harbored onboard docking stations for multiple ‘Wasps’.
AOD-M1A2 ‘Wasp’ (Aerial Ordnance Drone - Model 1, Alteration 2). Nicknamed ‘Wasps’ by soldiers on the field after the rather intrusive buzzing sound as they hover. They were primarily used as a replacement for the human error in throwing explosives, essentially becoming flying grenade launchers. They also were able to dock onto the FRD-M7A2 when not in use.
Player Weapon/Drone Names
PCD-M1A1 ‘Bulldog’ (Personal Combat Drone - Model 1, Alteration 1, Experimental). The first semi-automated, widely used, personalised combat drone for use with squads. The drone quickly began seeing use in close quarters combat situations, dealing high damage with it’s shotgun mode and suppressing with it’s minigun-like firing mode. The drones effectiveness drops at range.
AOD- M2A1E ‘Wasp’ (Aerial Ordnance Drone - Model 2, Alteration 1, Experimental). The player will receive this weapon after they defeat the ‘Squid’ boss. It is an updated experimental version of the ACD-M1A2. With a modified toolset. It launches it’s projectiles arched at high speed compared to the previous model which dropped them below.
PESD-M1A3E (Personal Electromagnetic Sniper Drone - Model 1, Alteration 3, Experimental). Before the development of the ‘Howler’, coil gun technology was being experimented with on a smaller scale. A few versions of a drone variant of the technology were developed and proved useful to dispatch enemies from range
By the end of the week I'd managed to almost entirely finish the core of the squid boss. This view show the placement of the eyes, as well as where the two main tentacles will attach.

Here you can see the rear attach points for the six other tentacles.

For the first phase of the boss fight the boss will actually be half embedded in the ground. The player will only see the top eye until they reach the second phase. At which point boss will tear out of the ground, showing twelve more eyes!
